A Day At The Hospital

Have you ever been to a hospital? I mean not a small clinic, but a real big hospital which contains all the departments (at least almost) of the medical field with research included. Oh! If you haven’t its a sight to see. It humbles our perspective of how much we think we are as sufferers.
Those who start from their home to a hospital for an appointment for any of their illness they are complaining of, will be put down to their place by the kind of real suffering going on around them. From a few months old babies to ailing old generation crawling around the whole place, makes your heart melt with feelings of empathy and sympathy for the human kind.

When people fight for different and various reasons like religion, caste, difference of opinion and God knows what kind of nonsense, do they even realise that there are lakhs of people in the hospital waiting to see just one more day in their life. Just one more day of the glorious life, they dream of. There are many who would consider themselves as blessed, if only they could just breath their own, instead of the ventilator doing that for them.

IMG-20180821-WA0008
Small children suffering for no fault of theirs make your heart ache, if you have one. The tubes going through their nose feeding them with the necessary fluids to keep them alive, Ah; if only we were more grateful for the mercies and blessings in our life. The never ending line at the counters for admission or for an appointment to see the doctors, is frightful when you see, making you wonder, how many people are suffering in this world with ailing health.

IMG-20180821-WA0006
Kudos to the medical fraternities who handles each case with ease and dedication. The never ending lines of patients and yet they greet each one with a smile on their face with patience and with an ever ready ears to listen to the case history of the patients.
All our qualifications and degrees become null and void in front of the humble service they do as a part of their professional progression they do for the society.
When there are medical professionals minting money with their private practices, there are a few but dedicated doctors dutifully and diligently working in public institutions bringing relief for the poor and needy and the high class society alike. Not showing any kind of partiality at all between the so called class divisions by the society.
Many come from far and wide to such institutions as they have all departmental solutions under one roof with the necessary technical support. They come seeking help and hope for their loved and dear ones to get a cure from the ailing they suffer from. Parents bringing their child, children bringing their parent, husband bringing wife, wife bringing husband, sisters shedding tears for their dear brother, brother accompanying sister for treatment, all sorts can be seen here.
One such visitation made me humbled and thankful enough to my God, for all the mercies, grace and blessings in my life, for if nothing I still can breath on my own, I can still feed myself, I can touch, I can feel, I can see, I can hear, I can speak, and I am alive to see another beautiful day in my life with all the loved ones in my life, surrounded with their love and care. How blessed I feel to have such a privilege in my life.

  1. Oh, that’s so sad about the small kid. It really feels bad to see him like this for his no mistake. And yeah, Hospitals greet people with smiles but some private hospitals work only to mint money.

And we all know there exists a thing called corruption , especially if you are an Indian. So I was just talking about the other aspect of it. I hope you get it.

  2. I read this morning and ran to my daily routine. I had to come back and re read your post again because it brought me my early childhood days. My mother is a staff nurse in a public hospital. When I was a kid, some days I had to go with my appa to pick up amma from work or any illness amma took me to the doctors she knew. The scent of paraffin wax, spirit and hospital beds still lingers in my mind. Cotton patches and bandages on an old lady’s eye accompanied by her frail and weak daughter or son, people on wheelchairs, … Their sufferings were so hard on me at that age… I always hated to go there. Amma wanted me to be a doctor. But honestly I could never shoulder such a huge responsibility unless I had the passion for it. It never stuck on me. I’m still disappointed I could not satisfy the dream she had for me, but she understood my passion and let me go…. I used to yell back at her in my teen years for bringing up that topic. Later I stopped that, because it was only after my first job ,I understood the pain she had to go through.. I couldn’t handle one boss but amma works day shifts and night shifts, at festivals, serving dozens of patients a day.. On asking how she is going through all of it with many physical and mental pain, she just says she loves to see that single smile from people.

    1. I am so glad, you shared the most intimate deep emotion of yours with me. I am glad it brought back some good memories and I am sorry about the bad ones you encountered in your young tender age. But I am glad you had that opportunity to go through what you went through for it has made you empathise with the needy and unwell people and sympathize with your mother’s hard work. Great is the work of nurses that I have written a poem in this same blog to show my appreciation. I would be glad, if you could just show ur Amma the poem and say her fan wrote it for her. I am sure, your Appa and Amma will be proud , of.what you have made yourself to be. I am so happy I connected with you via this platform. My vanakkam to your parents. Take care

    1. Yes KJ. This day made a real impact on me, the sufferings around me made me realise every minute in our life is accountable and precious as many don’t even get to see the nxt day. And Almighty has blessed us with the best gift he can give – Beautiful precious moments with a healthy perspective of life to love others as how he has loved us.
I will never forget that day for the rest of my life.

  3. Thanks for the post.Love it.Glad there are still some good souls like you who appreciate the role of Doctors & Nurses in this world.Your post gives more energy and encouragement to the Medical fraternity, since they are blamed at the drop of a hat, forgetting that Doctors are not Gods ,merely His creations One bad trend among society is that the feel Doctors are greedy, forgetting that the same society praises them as Gods at other times. How convenient ?Glad most of your article talks goodness of the Doctors.Appreciate.In fact I say Doctor does wonderful job these days, though they are blamed at every opportunity. No surprise present generation hates joining medical course.

    1. Glad you read this post. I had the opportunity to meet some real good doctors in my life. And let me tell you, they were gem of the lots. This is including my cousin bro who works for one of the most prestigious public hospital in India. He is the most humblest senior cardiologist I have met in my life. And most of the time I have come across few of the best in their profession including professor of Medical students yet so down to earth that many times I felt there is so much to learn from them not only the prescribed course. Wish people like you carry on this torch of serving and saving lives and makes a difference in lay men’s life. For the hands which compassionately touches the patients are sure yours but the healing is divine and comes from the Almighty. And he chose you out of the millions to be his instrument to reach out to the sick and the needy ones.
Smile Sridhar ji, for the smile on your face changes many life’s including mine.
And yes an average Indian patient still sees you as God. But you know who you are so be what you are destined to be. An instrument in God’s hand.
My best wishes for your successful and mind satisfying days ahead. Serving others is the best way to serve God himself.
      Smile Sridhar ji. Always.

    1. Uhmm….A very valid question. Interesting indeed the fact that I am being observed keenly by my followers
First and foremost a big thanks for all the adjectives you used there for me. Mein shukar guzaar hun aapka.
Yes basically I am a very jovial person. I try to take things light. I carry my own weight why carry the extra baggage of being a very serious person. And the truth is even if I get angry my anger can’t last long, and my anger melts like an icecream in front of a sincere smile.
Yes why do i write poems from the depth of my heart which induces pain. As you told it is a secret and everyone has some buried in them. The deeper the burial the darker the secret is. But some times your heart bleeds not literally of course but metaphorically that bleeding comes out as Melancholy poems. And these let outs are necessary Sridhar ji for maintaining ones sanity.
Some says most of their work is fiction but I say unless you feel the emotion you can’t write especially a poem. Stories yes we can imagine and spin yarns, but poems are basically hearts way of talking be it romantic, melancholy, or any other emotion for that matter. Poems are hearts language to communicate.
Again ji totally my opinion….i am open as said earlier to your opinion too.
Intra personal communication are interesting, isn’t it?

For a professional like you writing prose or poetry is as ABC,and just a piece of cake, and Anamika can do with her eyes closed and it’s just a child’s play.
No need for any time or occasion.Gifted personality.

      6. I want and wish everyone to be happy throughout the life to the extent possible.I wish everyone takes the responsibility to the extent possible to make and feel others happy and comfortable. This should be universal.Just before going to bed think how many people were made at ease by you( I mean in general ) and how much of their happiness you ( again I mean every one of us ) shared.Thought of comfort should overcome all our so called and real tensions. This is my philosophy.I am happy if my well wishes share my view.God is kind enough to grant me that opportunity.Sorry for boring the energetic Person whose name…..nameless ??.., Person with full of Grace?? But Anamika is not only nameless and graceful and kind hearted…but according to urban dictionary it says

Usually a name for a girl. Anamika’s are super kind to be around. They will never let you down and will always be there for you when you need them most. They are smart, beautiful, funny, and 100% crazy. They will make you laugh to the point where you almost pee your pants. Anamika’s are always very smart yet sometimes super clumsy and blonde. They love dancing and singing and always have a good time. Anamika’s are one of a kind and cannot be replaced”…

  5. Thank you.
Glad you are having a happy Wednesday.
Your gravatar perfectly tells about you ie.

Sunflowers symbolize adoration, loyalty and longevity. Much of the meaning of sunflowers stems from its namesake, the sun itself. These flowers are unique in that they have the ability to provide energy in the form of nourishment and vibrancy—attributes which mirror the sun and the energy provided by its heat and light.

Sunflowers are known for being “happy” flowers, making them the perfect gift to bring joy to someone’s (or your) day.

    1. Haha….looks like beloved internet is very useful tdy…for all aaraichis. Thank you for providing your gyaan on sunflower… iz phool ko chunthe vakth ithna detail mein dhyan nahi diya tha…but as u told i was always fascinated by the vibrance reflected by Sunflower. And the few chances i got to pass through a sunflower farm….my God it was a sight for sore eyes each and every time, it amazed me to see the sunflowers automatically turning towards the sun for it’s energy.
But the gravatar what you chose says something about you too… especially the philosophical aspect of you. The Taijitu or the Yin and Yang as it popularly called is a form of both opposite poles like Cold and heat ya day and night. Would you kindly illuminate this sunflower as to why you chose this as your visual representation. You must be having a reason I am sure about it.
Winded up kya? Ya still on duty?

Thanks for your interesting thought on Yin & Yang. You should really go to depths to understand this philosophy.
The principles of yin and yang are an important part of “Huangdi Neijing,” or “Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Medicine.” Written about 2,000 years ago, it is the earliest Chinese medical book. It is believed that to be healthy, one needs to balance the yin and yang forces within one’s own body.
The yin yang meaning and symbol date back to ancient China.
The symbol represents the belief that everything in the universe consists of two forces that are opposing but complementary.
